You might be surprised to learn that at Dynamic Golf Institute we consider the so-called “offseason” the bedrock of our improvement program. Yes, we are talking about winter in Chicago when most golfers put their clubs away for five months! The cold winter months are a great test for your love of the game and desire to get better. You can forget about golf or take the initiative to improve your body and prepare for your best season ever. I think you know where we stand!
Here is our challenge to you… team with a golf fitness expert to assess your current fitness level and identify your golf fitness handicap. We recommend a golf-specific physical, called the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) screen. Your golf fitness coach should then create a training program to address physical limitations.
At the end of your training program, you should be screened again to identify your new golf fitness handicap and objectively measure improvement made through the program. Without question, significant improvements in your fitness handicap will translate to your golf handicap. This is a proven model for golf improvement. When students dedicate themselves to a golf specific fitness regimen and develop the posture, balance, mobility and power required to make a repeating golf swing—the results are amazing!
At Dynamic Golf Institute, we have the resources to take your golf fitness level to new heights. Our students enjoy a dedicated training studio offering a wide range of high performance equipment for exercising and swing modeling. With 15 years of personal training experience, Steven Jones is our golf fitness coordinator. His philosophy is based upon working from the inside out and building a solid foundation from the ground up. Steve will get any motivated golfer stronger and playing better!
Our “Yoga… for the serious golfer” is a unique program focusing on balance, stability, mobility, and movement awareness. Our students have achieved substantial gains in each area. We would like to highlight a story about one of the golfers in the most recent yoga program, Mary Lafferty. Mary started the program with a TPI golf fitness handicap of 14.5 and finished the program at 4.5. Her primary physical deficit entering the program was the inability to demonstrate independent movement between the upper and lower body. Many of the yoga poses in our classes focus on training this type of separated movement. She worked very hard in golf-yoga sessions and took regular golf lessons with her golf instructor. At the end of her program, Mary could not wait to tell us that she was hitting the ball 20-25 yards farther than she ever had before! That’s a true success story from a dedicated golfer.
The combination of golf fitness, biomechanics training and motor learning is the future of golf—and it’s available to Chicagoland golfers today!
